NAPANEE, Ont. – The goal of the tournament. At least, so far.
Nicole Gifford (Ennismore, ON/Durham West Lightning, PWHL) of Team Ontario Blue scored the goal. But it was her linemate, Theadora Imbrogno (Etobicoke, ON/Mississauga Chiefs, PWHL), who made the play.
Early in the third period against Team Saskatchewan, Imbrogno was in a foot race for a loose puck. She fell down but then, as she was sitting on the ice, she somehow slid the puck over to Gifford, who snapped a shot past Saskatchewan goaltender Michala Jeffries (Fiske, SK/Swift Current Wildcats, SFMAAAHL). The goal gave Ontario Blue a 3-1 lead, a lead it would hold.
The assist was Imbrogno’s third point of the game. She opened the game’s scoring at 2:09 of the first. Gifford scored her first of two goals at 11:58 of the second, with Imbrogno picking up an assist.
Saskatchewan’s lone goal was scored by Jessica Campbell (Melville, SK/Pursuit of Excellence), who now has three goals for the tournament.
Ontario Blue moved to 1-1 and Saskatchewan dropped to 1-1.
